Tibetan Cabinet Golden Dragon Kyungbur Coffer, c. 1850

Crafted in 19th-century Tibet, this remarkable storage cabinet is adorned with a warm palette of red, orange, green, and gold pigments, covering every surface with vibrant color. The hand-painted facade, executed with extraordinary precision, celebrates traditional Tibetan artistry and evokes the spirit of a bygone era.

The decoration features the intricate “kyung bur” technique, in which artisans layer gesso, resin, oil, and pigments to create raised outlines and subtle relief textures.
